In honor of all the hoopla going on around Rihanna’s new Birthday Cake Remix with her former abuser/bf, I just wanted to post a few more pics of some of the coolio cakes I’ve done recently.

First up is our yummy Ladies’ Hat cake that was made for an equally yummy young woman who was celebrating her (very) belated birthday. As fabulous as she is, the cake had to be equally fabulous. The theme for her ‘do was Sunglasses and Hats, and so it was only fitting to make a lavender/blue-ish ladies hat cake for her.

I had actually had a completely other idea for how this cake would come out. I actually had laid out some fondant to make the brim of the hat two nights earlier in the hopes that it would harden in the way I wanted the hat to appear. BAD IDEA. When the day came to actually make the hat it just WASN’T working out. Mad and angry at 2am after all that hard work, I simply just flopped the fondant over the hat and this is what I came out with. Thank God for His little misplaced blessings, because this looked much better than the other version could have!

The flavors inside were Red Velvet (of course) and Classic Vanilla. Everyone loved it…..:-)Image

Next up is the super awesome RockStar Cake I made for an adorable little girl who was turning 10 a few weeks ago. Her mom had wanted something “cool”, that wasn’t too girlie. So when I found out she played the drums, I thought “duh!” what better than to make her a Drum-Kit cake.

I’m fairly new at the Cake-Game so you’ll notice that some of the edges are a little bumpy, but hey, for a first try I’d have to say it’s not so bad! The molding process took quite some time (to make the actual drums, and the likes) but it was such an awesome learning experience and I absolutely loved the way the cake came out at the end, despite the rough edges as previously mentioned!!!

Can’t wait to do more cakes!!!!!! Remember to email or call us at +26774437735 for menus/consultations and whatever other confectionery needs you may have!

Just another update on some of the new stuff to come out of our kitchen this week!!

So celebration cakes are obviously really popular and I’ve been getting a few orders for them. Not something I am used to doing but definitely enjoy doing them. Afterall, it is my dream to be the Southern African Buddy from Carlo’s Bakery (from the TLC show, Cake Boss), so I’m glad I’m getting these opportunities. It’s always fun to meet with a client and have them tell you what they want and to start to think of all the cool and crazy options out there!!

No hydraulics like Buddy, yet but in time, in time 🙂

Here’s a 30th Bday cake I made for a customer last week…

And next we have our cupcakes….my favorites!!! Cookies and Cream .. these are a rich and tangy Chocolate cupcake filled with our favorite Cream Cheese Frosting and iced with an Oreo Cookie Cream Cheese Frosting, and topped with of course, an Oreo. These are ridiculously sweet. Beware!!! Yummy nonetheless.

And lastly, some Lemon Meringue Babies. These are so delightful, but especially when eaten straight out of the oven. Left for a few hours and the meringue topping goes to bed, if you know what I mean. Just falls flat 😦 But still delicious. That lining of lemon curd between the hot cupcake and the Meringue….ONCE!

Last Saturday we threw a very special baby shower for a very special Mommy-to-be!! This Mommy-to-be is one of Bella Pastry’s biggest supporters and fans, and actually doubles up as one of our assistants when it gets hectic!! So of course her cake had to be as cute and pretty as possible, given the amount of time I had to make it!

This cake is what I’ve titled the Bella Pastry Preggy Belly Cake!! It serves two purposes. It’s delicious and yummy and it also makes for a great way to reveal the gender of the baby for guests who may not know what the baby is yet!

What I did was make the inside of the cake blue. Surely I don’t have to explain why. LOL. It was actually a blue velvet cake. It’s best when the cake is the Mommy-to-be’s favorite cake flavor. Before the gifts were opened, guests were asked to guess what the baby’s gender will be and once the Mommy-to-be cut into the cake, it was revealed. Absolutely adorable. Broody women love this kind of thing!!!

It's a Boooooyyy!

All in all the shower was amazing. Cupcakes (Lemon Meringue and decorated Vanilla) and Raisin Bran Muffins were also on the menu courtesy of Bella Pastry. Here’s another fun and cooky cupcake …. the Sleeping Baby Cupcake. No I did not make the baby and No you are not meant to eat him. It’s just for the sake of looking cute, though some people acted as if I’d sacrificed a real newborn fetus for this!
